Epidemic! Survivors' Spirit (documentary preview)

Epidemic: Affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a population, community or region at the same time."

This previews a documentary of hope, human spirit, and overcoming
life's obstacles told through the eyes of Polio Survivors.

Need for Financial Support!

“Doing the impossible” has always been a driving force behind those who had polio.  The Central Kansas Polio Survivors Support Group is seeking financial assistance to produce a documentary titled “EPIDEMIC! SURVIVORS’ SPIRIT --- Told Through the Eyes of Polio Survivors”.  This hour-long documentary will provide historical insight into the reaction of local communities and the nation during the polio epidemic.  It will chronicle the eradication of polio in the United States and efforts to do so on a world-wide basis.  The film will forever capture the stories of area survivors, including their experiences, hopes, and struggles to live in a society which was “paralyzed” with fear during the height of one of the most dreaded diseases in American history.

“EPIDEMIC” will serve as an educational tool for nurses, physicians, and others entering the medical profession.  It will educate and inform the present population and future generations who have never faced a disease that permanently affected thousands of American lives.  Finally, this documentary will provide an inspirational message to all people who face daily challenges as well as encourage others to reach for all life has to offer, regardless of their age.

If timely funding is available for production, the film will be a part of the Post-Polio Health International Conference at Warm Springs, GA in April of 2009.

“EPIDEMIC! SURVIVORS’ SPIRIT” will truly be the story of hope and the human spirit in overcoming life’s obstacles.

When the morning's freshness has been replaced by the weariness of midday, when the leg muscles quiver under the strain, the climb seems endless, and, suddenly, nothing will go quite as you wish - it is then that you must not hesitate.

We do not receive wisdom. We must discover it ourselves after experiences, which no one else can have for us and from which no one else can spare us.
